“AeroPress” is not one cleaning instruction. In its current FAQ, the manufacturer says AeroPress Steel is dishwasher-safe but AeroPress Premium is handwash-only. It also distinguishes solid-color AeroPress Go lids from patterned ones and gives a top-rack restriction for its stainless-steel filters. Do not infer care from the material alone
Premium includes a glass chamber and metal components, but the manufacturer still requires handwashing. Steel has a different construction and its own dishwasher answer. A part looking metallic or heat-resistant does not establish that its coatings, seals, or assembly tolerate your chosen cleaning method.
Check the model name on your purchase record or packaging. If an accessory came from another company, use that maker’s directions. Compatibility with the brewer is one question; cleaning compatibility is another.
Let hot filter caps cool before handling
The AeroPress FAQ says the Steel filter cap can be left briefly to cool, run under cool water before removal, or handled with a cloth. For Premium, it describes cooling the cap under water for a few seconds or using a cloth. Avoid grabbing a hot cap directly just because the brew is finished. These are the manufacturer’s cap-handling directions, not an instruction to immerse the entire brewer. [1]
The XL Variable Flow Control Cap has its own routine
AeroPress explains that coffee residue can make this cap’s open-close tab stiff after storage. It recommends rinsing after each brew while moving the tab between open and closed positions. If movement is stiff, its instructions are to handwash with dish soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly before use.
Do not confuse that mechanism with the standard-size Flow Control Filter Cap: the FAQ explicitly describes different flow-control designs. Match the cap’s name and size before following maintenance directions, and do not force a mechanism just because another cap operates differently.
Keep cleaning and brewing safety separate
Dishwasher approval does not imply microwave approval. AeroPress specifically says not to microwave Steel or Premium. Its Steel FAQ also says not to press while the brewer is on a scale. These restrictions answer different questions from whether a component can go in the dishwasher. [1]
Keep a short list with your coffee equipment: brewer model, cap type, filter type, and the relevant cleaning directions. When you change an accessory, update that list. It is a more reliable routine than remembering one rule for a product family whose parts are not all maintained the same way.
